Fiction Faux Pas – POV

Have you ever been reading a story, captivated by every word, perched on the edge of your seat, holding your breath for that next little drop of drama, and then …. a blurb stating the point of view has changed. Talk about a mood killer.

Well formed literature should not have to point out when the point of view has changed or when the character focus has shifted. This should be evident in the natural flow of dialog and with proper paragraph placement. It can be very distracting to a readers and essentially kill the flow of the story.

Surprisingly, this is mostly found in fiction posted online. This could be due to the large population of novice writers that publish fiction on the web.  Some authors use them sparingly, while others  seemingly place them at the end of every paragraph.

I would like to remind everyone that this is only my opinion.  I am  in no way a literary writer or a grammar teacher. Suffice to say, readers can still find solid stories and be drawn into engaging tales of fiction that are written using this method. I, however, prefer the smooth, clean lines, and uninterrupted dialog and visual flow of a POV Blurbless piece of literature.
